That smoking harms health has long been proven. But it is surprising that those who do not free themselves from the unhealthy drag can at least reduce their risk of cancerwith the right nutrition and regular exercises.

Flavonoids

Flavonoids are secondary plant substances that could reduce cancer risk. The hallmark of the so-called flavonoids is the color in fruits and vegetables: strong green, yellow or blue. That is why red grapes, yellow peppers, eggplant, apples, pears and onions are good for the health. Its antioxidant properties have positive effects in cardiovascular diseases and could help prevent and control some cancer conditions.

Coffee, tea, red wine and chocolate have the said flavonoids, too.

Chocolate

Chocolate is also potentially good for the smoker’s heart. Dark chocolate can positively lower the risk of heart attacks for smokers. The consumption of dark chocolate with a cocoa content of 74 percent improves functions of the heart’s vessel walls. It also improves the body’s antioxidant status.

Carrots

Cigarette smoke stimulates the formation of cell-damaging substances known as free radicals in the body. Beta-carotene along with vitamins A, C and E helps bind and eliminate these free radicals. However, they should be taken in natural form to have the best results.

Stop Smoking

It would be commendable for a smoker to quit smoking. Promoting a healthy diet while giving up smoking is not simple but it could help stabilize weight, improve brain metabolism and promote a balance condition. Joining relaxation technique classes, sticking to a particular diet and changing a lifestyle should follow to reinforce the decision to quit.
