Yes, there are certain foods that are absolutely taboo for pregnant women. And there are foods that pregnant women should eat in moderation.
During pregnancy, avoid eating the following foods:
· Raw and slightly cooked meat including sausages and tartar and raw fish such as sushi because there is a danger of infection with toxoplasmosis (an infection that passes from animals to human)
· Raw eggs as it may carry salmonella, which causes of diarrhea.
· Non-pasteurized milk and milk cheese as these may contain listeria pathogen, one of the causes of food borne diseases
· Garlic gloves, cardamom and cinnamon which could contribute to labor pains
· Spicy, grilled and fried food
· Fish and seafood with high levels of mercury such as marlin, tuna, and shark
· Liver and other entrails and internal organs of a slaughtered animal during the In the first three months of pregnancy
During pregnancy, adhere to the following:
· Drink only two cups of coffee or black tea per day and restrict the consumption of cola. The caffeine can inhibit the absorption of nutrients that you need urgently.
· Keep to very small quantities of drinks that contain quinine. This includes tonic water or bitter lemon. If a pregnant woman drinks about 1 liter of beverages containing quinine a day; the baby will suffer from withdrawal symptoms after birth.
· Beware of too much vitamin A because an overdose could harm the unborn child. Go for natural beta-carotene type, as it is converted only into Vitamin A when needed by the body.
