Grape Fruit Diet

The so-called grapefruit diet is based on the theory that certain constituents of the fruit boosts fat burning that facilitates weight loss. It is categorized as a fast diet.

The grapefruit diet consists of three meals. Each meal begins with the consumption of half a grapefruit. The morning begins with breakfast, which consists of half a grapefruit and black coffee. Lunch begins with half a grapefruit, followed by an egg, lettuce with tomatoes and carrots, and whole wheat toast. In addition, whole wheat toast is on the menu. Dinner is of course of half a grapefruit plus two eggs with lettuce.

Black tea and coffee are accepted beverages in this diet. Dairy products, fruit and vegetables may be eaten only in moderation. Before drinking any caffeinated drink, half a grapefruit should also be consumed.

Benefits

It strengthens the immune system. Grapefruits are very healthy. They contain high levels of vitamin C, which helps boost the immune system.

It helps eliminate belly fat. Grapefruit supports the sugar metabolism. Blood sugar is responsible for fat storage. With a grapefruit diet, storage of fat, especially in the belly region, can be reduced.

It stimulates fat burning. Grapefruit contains enzymes that help the body burn fat at a faster rate. These enzymes also boost energy levels in the body.

Assessment

Due to the fact that this diet has a very low caloric content, around 800 kilo calories, the body cannot get all essential nutrients it needs. Therefore, it is not recommended as a long term diet. A balanced diet would still be the best alternative, after a short term use of this program.
