Best Healthy Snacks While on the Computer

Nuts

In an episode of The Healthier Geeks, Ryan’s tummy is growling. It’s been two hours since he had a very healthy Sub sandwich for lunch. It’s now time for the mid afternoon snack. He looks around the office and sees it deserted. Slowly, he opens the lower drawer and takes out a small bag of Lays potato chips. He opens it, careful not to make too much noise. As he was about to stuff a piece of chip in his mouth, Kim grabbed his hand. “You’re cheating…”

Snack times used be like the one described above, sans the “You’re cheating!” part. Back when weren’t so conscious about our health, eating chips seemed to be the most natural things to do while working on a computer. Now, things are different. We’re making healthy food choices and that includes healthier snack choices than chips. Lately, we’ve been finding ourselves munching on the following:

Fresh fruits – With SM’s fruit bar, it’s so easy to buy a canister of fresh fruit salad, put them on the ref, and eat them during snack time. You can choose to have it with cream or no. We skip the cream.

Nuts – We keep a bag of nuts, sometimes mixed, in the drawer. It’s healthier to go for the roasted type with less salt. Cashews, walnuts, and pistachios are some of the healthiest nuts readily available in the market.

Popcorn – This is not usually considered a healthy snack. But without butter and salt, popcorn is a better alternative to chips.

Veggie sticks – Though this takes some kind of preparation, veggie sticks are also good to eat in front of the computer. Put them in plastic containers and keep them fresh and crunchy with ice cubes.

Kim snatched the bag of chips from Ryan’s hand and thrust a canister of fresh fruits in its place. “There, snack on that.” The Healthier Geeks make a smart choice again.
