The apple diet is a type of fasting diet. It involves forsaking all food except raw apples. The dieter has to eat six apples at most per day and drink only tea and water.

Benefits

The good thing about apple is that it contains high levels of potassium which could help in accelerating the dehydration of the body. Furthermore, it contains pectin, which lowers cholesterol and washes pollutants from the body. It also contains tannins which are very healthy for digestion. Tannins also prevent gastrointestinal infections. The intestinal flora is also supported by the nutrients in apple.

The fruit acid in apple juice has the capacity to clean teeth and stimulate the production of saliva. Apple contains carotenoids and flavonoids that lower the risk of cancer. This is the reason why smokers should eat an apple every day, or take an apple diet into consideration.

Apples are also useful in managing gout or rheumatism. The fruit acids in apple reduce uric acid levels in the body and have anti-inflammatory effect on the joints.

Assessment

It is advisable to do the set aside a day in a week for the apple diet so that the body will get enough protein by eating other food with various nutrients on other days. A long term treatment with the apple diet would damage the body significantly because apples cannot supply all the necessary proteins needed by the body.

It is best to accompany an apple diet with healthy eating and sports during the rest of the week.
