With so man exercises equipment and diet products flooding the market, it seems that people have forgotten that the best way they can be healthy is to walk. It’s what I did and still do. Walking has become a way of life for me and I’m in a good shape ( round is a shape ) partly because of it.
I walk when I’m stressed from work. I swear it’s the best technique in stress management. After a hectic day at work, I walk around the building or the neighborhood to release the tension and think. Some of the best ideas I’ve had were born while I was out walking and talking to myself.
I walk out during after a heated discussion. I remember reading an article in Reader’s Digest. A man storms out every time he feels like he’s getting into a shouting match his wife and walks around the suburbs. Now at 70, he says that he managed to stay with his wife of more than 40 years and have a healthy heart. I want to say something like that when I’m 70.
I walk when I want to bond with my wife or friends. With my wife, we can walk side by side without the need to talk. We can walk in comfortable silence and just take everything in, our hands clasped. With friends, walking kills two birds with one stone. We can talk shop or just catch up one each other lives while getting some much needed cardio workout. We can play golf and walk instead of ridding a buggy! (Just had to say that!)
All it takes to become a healthier version of you is to literally take the first step. So don some comfortable slippers or sneakers after reading this post and take a walk. You will thank me for it later when you’re feeling better about yourself.
