“Life begins at 40”, or so they say.
So say a lot of friends. And it’s true. I’ve got friends who started to get more of out of life when they hit the big four-oh. Somehow, they managed to cut back a little on their work and find ways to get more out of life. I’m proud to say that I did learn to manage my work so I can have some for myself on a regular basis. Here’s how we did it:
Pack bags and luggage – Though my work involves traveling, I never get to see much of a place the way I want to. It’s always business before pleasure. Now that I’ve cut back on my hours, I get to visit places that I want to and enjoy the sights and sounds to my heart’s content.
Take up a hobby – With work hours reduced, I took up something to occupy my time. I like working with my hands and took up wood working. There’s a lot of resource online plus there’s an abundance of DIY shops around the metro. I also get to take a lot of pleasure from using the things I created. ( though am not really proud of my creations ) yet it gave satisfaction of a different kind.. just doing it.
Start an online journal – Who says blogging is just for teenagers? Obviously, I’ve taken up blogging and found it enjoyable to share my thoughts to the world. I’ve met some interesting personalities online, too. Though one needs to be careful and not show it all for world to see.
Don rubber shoes – I realized that to get more out of life, I have to have the energy to enjoy life. The only way I can have the energy I need to is to eat right and exercise. So I’ve taken to healthy eating and running ( brisk walk & slow jogging ). Golf also helps to keep my mind sharp. Overall, I’m aware of my health, need to improve and most important is that I am doing something to be in better health.
Realize that all these ways of enjoying life would not work if you do not make a commitment to balance your work. Allow yourself to enjoy life and live it to the fullest.
