Mind Over Matter, You Can if You Want to… Its All in the Mind

The mind is a very powerful tool. And I do not mean telekinesis. You see, I’ve just had a very interesting talk with a makeup artist about how she ended up being one. And here’s what she told me.

She graduated as a biology major in one of the top universities here in the Philippines. Her plan was to take up medicine but after graduation, she found herself employed from one job to another. Eventually, she didn’t like the idea of becoming a doctor anymore so she decided to apply to a cosmetology school and become a makeup artist.

It was a struggle at first. But she became one. She would pass by MAC stores, look at the cosmetics she wants, and say to herself “I will have those.” Now, she has a luggage full of makeup MAC cosmetics she badly wanted before along with other popular imported brands. She’s done make up for celebrities and books as much as 6 clients a day. Her motto: Be positive all of the time and you will prevail.

Hers is an interesting story, indeed. It’s a testament that thinking positively greatly improves one’s lot in life. Positive thinking could bring one much success and happiness. Unfortunately, maintaining a positive outlook and disposition can be challenging if you are not used to it. Here are some tips to remain positive:

Visualize yourself achieving your goal. Visualization is a technique that many life coaches advice to their clients. Health wise, visualize yourself fabulously fit and glowing of health and you will be so in no time at all.

Make lemonade out of lemons. When you experience setbacks, do not dwell on errors you made and the what-ifs. Instead, take comfort in the lessons you learned and let them fuel your passion.

Surround yourself with positive people. Staying positive will be difficult if the company you keep has negative attitudes. However, being with positive people helps you maintain that positive outlook towards life.
