The road to health need not be lonely. You can involve your family, especially your kids, in your quest for a healthier lifestyle. In fact, it’s highly advisable to start your kids on the path to a healthier lifestyle to reduce the risk of obesity and other diseases that come with an unhealthy lifestyle. Here are some tips for teaching your kids to be healthy.
Lead by example. You cannot expect your kids to exercise if they see you sitting on the sofa and playing thumb exercise with the remote. Enroll in a kid-friendly gym, or those that will allow you to work out with your kid. If you can’t find any, then turn to walking and jogging together. Invite your child to take a walk after dinner and to jog in parks on the weekends.
Take them shopping. A run to the grocery can be an exercise in healthy decision making. Take your kids with you and educate them on what foods to choose. Start your shopping with the fresh produce section. Tell your kid what each fruit or vegetable does for your body and let them choose what they want to eat. Stay away from the chips and candies section. Teach them how to read food packaging labels as well as to decide which products are healthy and which are not based on the ingredient.
Take up a sport. Any sport builds self discipline, which is important factor in maintaining a healthy life style. More importantly, a sport ensures that your kid will have some physical activity that will engage his free time and keep him fit. Plus, if you are interested in the same sport, you have something to bond over outside of the home.
Keep in mind that the family that exercises together, stays together. Also remember that healthy kids are happy kids. So start your family on the way to health now.
