I just had lunch with Dr. John Cuay to talk about his articles. John is currently one of the fitness experts at Gold’s Gym but is moving to teach in Princton.

He will be writing more personalized articles for www.naturalhealth.ph. We only met for an hour but I’m already excited for the articles he’ll be churning out. For example, I asked him a little about what supplements he takes, you should see the muscles on this guy and the definitions, and he said, “I don’t take any. My intake is completely natural.” So I asked him:

Me: No creatine?
John: Nope.
Me: No protein powder?
John: Nope.
Me: Weight gainers?
John: Nope.

The secret he said was in getting the basics of diet, exercise, and rest correct. Here are a few things I remember from the conversation:
br>
Diet: The best way to feed our muscles is through the right diet – NOT through supplements. First of all, the right diet consists of natural unprocessed food that your body accepts well. Also, if the goal is to build muscle, meals should consist of a good mix of protein and complex carbohydrates that are enough to feed the growing muscle. (More on this in John’s future posts)

Exercise: There’s no going around it. If you don’t workout you won’t build muscle. You have to lift, and push, and pull, and sweat, and run, and jump, and whatever to get results. (More on this in John’s future posts)

Rest: I get low points for this one. Lately, because of all my responsibilities, I usually only sleep about 4 or 5 hours which is way too little compared to the recommended 8 hours of sleep a day. But resting is what allows us to recover and gives our bodies time to heal. When we exercise we sort of wound our muscles, when we eat right we provide the healing and growing ingredients, and when we rest we give our bodies the time to actually do the growing and healing. We should be getting the first of John’s articles next week. I’m quite excited for this. Maybe it’s time I buffed-up – the natural way of course.
