Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) are surfactants (surface active agent) which act as cleaning agents for detergents. The result, all fatty chemicals which are needed to protect the skin are being washed away and cause dryness and skin irritation. This is true to most commercial soaps which commonly contain synthetic chemicals, and petrochemicals which are harmful to our skin.

Refined Coconut Oil (CO) is referred to in the coconut industry as RBD (refined, bleached, and deodorized) coconut oil. This coconut oil is commonly used for cooking, soap, and cosmetics, and regarded as lower quality than VCO and typically made from copra (dried kernel) meat of coconut. It is done by drying coconut meat under the sun, processed through expeller, refined, bleached, and deodorized (high temperature and chemical solvent processed).

On the other hand, Virgin Coconut Oil is made from fresh coconuts. It undergoes cold process by either fermentation or low heat (centrifuge). The oil retains its naturally occurring phytochemicals (plant chemicals). Good quality Virgin Coconut Oil should taste and smell like coconut. It should be very fine oil and will quickly melt in the palm of your hand with body heat. If it does not solidify or melt quickly you know it is much thicker and inferior oil.

VCO is chemical free and loaded with rejuvenating medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) or medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA). It is nature’s most abundant source of antimicrobial MCFA’s. Consider MCFA’s as bodyguards of your skin.
