Tips to Keep Your Skin Healthy in the City

By Natural Beauty

Actually pollution has very minimal effect on skin since we are very well adapted to ozone (a pollutant component of smog). It was recorded that the reduction of antioxidant levels (Vitamin E) was minimal, killed a few natural skin bacteria but it didn’t have any effect on the skin’s intrinsic level that controls skin health.

The research on ozone exposure concluded that:
1. Skin’s natural anti-oxidant defense system protects the skin
2. Conditions aren’t right for ozone reactions that would cause more damage
3. Ozone just isn’t able to penetrate deep enough into skin to cause any real problems

However, the culprit can really be pinpointed to the damaging effects of UV ray exposure.

As this damages skin from skin deep. Fibroblasts nerves and elastin fibers that are responsible for skin elasticity are damaged, breaking down
production of collagen, hence resulting to the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin.

UV ray exposure destroys the skin’s natural defenses. The effects of pollution then becomes relevant in this case.

Best way to counter effect sun and heat protection is to avoid sunbathing and unnecessary exposure.

Experts recommend:

Neutralize damage from pollutants with skin care formulations that have adequate concentrations of antioxidants like Vitamin A,E,D and C and antioxidants like superoxide dismutase.

For prevention, essential fatty acids and soothings extracts (chamomile and lavender) help protect skin from damage and boost resistance. Look for natural products that contain rose extracts, green tea, avocado, grapeseed or black currant compounds for best results. The products are for repair and prevention.
